    Construcción y validación de impresos: sistematización del cuidado de personas en hemodiálisis

    Objective: create and validate forms to subsidize the systematization of nursing care with people on hemodialysis. Method: institutional case study to support the systematization of assistance from the construction of forms for data collection, diagnoses, interventions and nursing results, using cross-mapping, Risner's reasoning, Neuman's theory, taxonomies of diagnoses, interventions and nursing results with application in clinical practice and validation by focal group with specialist nurses. Results: 18 people on hemodialysis and 7 nurses participated. Consensus content of form matter with specialist nurses in the area (Crombach 0.86). The papers captured 43 diagnoses, 26 interventions and 78 nursing results depicting human responses in their singularities. Final considerations: the validated forms fill a gap by enabling the capture of human responses from people on hemodialysis and by subsidizing the planning of nursing care on a scientific basis.Objetivo: crear y validar impresos para subsidiar la sistematización del cuidado de enfermería con personas en hemodiálisis. Método: estudio de caso institucional para subsidiar la sistematización de la asistencia a partir de la construcción de impresos para recolección de datos, diagnósticos, intervenciones y resultados de enfermería, utilizando el mapeo cruzado, el raciocinio de Risner, la teoría de Neuman, taxonomías de diagnósticos, intervenciones y resultados de enfermería con aplicación en la práctica clínica y validación por grupo focal con enfermeras especialistas. Resultados: participaron 18 personas en hemodiálisis y 7 enfermeros. Consensuados contenidos de los impresos con enfermeras especialistas del área (Crombach 0,86). Los impresos captaron 43 diagnósticos, 26 intervenciones y 78 resultados de enfermería retratando respuestas humanas en sus singularidades. Consideraciones finales: los impresos validados llenan una brecha al posibilitar la captación de respuestas humanas de personas en hemodiálisis y al subsidiar la planificación de los cuidados de enfermería en bases científicas

    Radiolucent image in lower third molar: hidden caries or pre-eruptive resorption?: a case report

    ABSTRACT Caries is a multifactorial disease due to the imbalance of the de/re-mineralization process. Complementary radiographic examinations are able to detect hidden caries. The purpose of this short communication was to investigate the radiolucent image suggestive of hidden caries in lower third molar. The extraction of the tooth, decalcification, inclusion and preparation were performed for histological analysis of the lesion. Histological findings revealed a pre-eruptive resorption, and the etiological factors of this coronary resorption were undefined. The professional should be aware of the occurrences of these lesions to early diagnose and propose appropriate treatment to avoid future complications to the patient

    Diagnostic aspects of juvenile ossificant fibroma: A case study

    Juvenile ossifying fibroma is an uncommon, fast-growing benign neoplasm classified within the group of fibro-osseous lesions that directly affect the face and the jaws. Although it is not followed by metastasis, it usually presents a highly aggressive nature. It is histopathologically divided into two patterns: trabecular and psammomatoid. It can be differentiated through the age of the patients, anatomic location and behavior of the lesion. In this context, this paper reports on the findings of a rare pathology case: juvenile ossifying fibroma, focusing primarily on its clinical, medical imaging and histopathological features characteristics, in order to familiarize the dentist, provide correct diagnosis and the most appropriate treatment

    408 Cases of Genital Ambiguity Followed by Single Multidisciplinary Team during 23 Years: Etiologic Diagnosis and Sex of Rearing

    Objective. To evaluate diagnosis, age of referral, karyotype, and sex of rearing of cases with disorders of sex development (DSD) with ambiguous genitalia. Methods. Retrospective study during 23 years at outpatient clinic of a referral center. Results. There were 408 cases; 250 (61.3%) were 46,XY and 124 (30.4%) 46,XX and 34 (8.3%) had sex chromosomes abnormalities. 189 (46.3%) had 46,XY testicular DSD, 105 (25.7%) 46,XX ovarian DSD, 95 (23.3%) disorders of gonadal development (DGD), and 19 (4.7%) complex malformations. The main etiology of 46,XX ovarian DSD was salt-wasting 21-hydroxylase deficiency. In 46,XX and 46,XY groups, other malformations were observed. In the DGD group, 46,XY partial gonadal dysgenesis, mixed gonadal dysgenesis, and ovotesticular DSD were more frequent. Low birth weight was observed in 42 cases of idiopathic 46,XY testicular DSD. The average age at diagnosis was 31.7 months. The final sex of rearing was male in 238 cases and female in 170. Only 6.6% (27 cases) needed sex reassignment. Conclusions. In this large DSD sample with ambiguous genitalia, the 46,XY karyotype was the most frequent; in turn, congenital adrenal hyperplasia was the most frequent etiology. Malformations associated with DSD were common in all groups and low birth weight was associated with idiopathic 46,XY testicular DSD

    Can porous polymeric scaffolds be functionalized by stem cells leading to osteogenic differentiation? a systematic review of in vitro studies

    The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of nanoporous structure of polymeric biomaterials on the in vitro osteogenic induction of human stem cells. An electronic search in three databases (MEDLINE, SCOPUS, and Web of Science) was performed for articles that were published before May 2018. In vitro studies were included if they met the following criteria: (1) the use of polymeric scaffolds (natural or synthetic); (2) the co-culture of human stem cells with the scaffold; and (3) cell viability, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation assays. The main characteristics of the published studies were summarized, and a quality assessment tool was used to analyze methodological features. Eighty-eight potential articles were firstly retrieved. Thirteen were eligible for qualitative analysis. Only three studies characterized cell stemness. Nanostructure of the scaffolds showed a significant influence on viability, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation of human stem cells. Combination of porosity between 72 and 93% and a large range diameter between 50 and 224 μm resulted in more remarkable cellular proliferation and differentiation. Porous polymeric scaffolds can be functionalized by stem cells leading to osteogenic induction. High standards of laboratory practice and accurate methodological reporting are essential for the credibility of the results157571576

    Intrinsic Angiogenic Potential and Migration Capacity of Human Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Derived from Menstrual Blood and Bone Marrow

    Several therapies are being developed to increase blood circulation in ischemic tissues. Despite bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (bmMSC) are still the most studied, an interesting and less invasive MSC source is the menstrual blood, which has shown great angiogenic capabilities. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the angiogenic properties of menstrual blood-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (mbMSC) in vitro and in vivo and compared to bmMSC. MSC’s intrinsic angiogenic capacity was assessed by sprouting and migration assays. mbMSC presented higher invasion and longer sprouts in 3D culture. Additionally, both MSC-spheroids showed cells expressing CD31. mbMSC and bmMSC were able to migrate after scratch wound in vitro, nonetheless, only mbMSC demonstrated ability to engraft in the chick embryo, migrating to perivascular, perineural, and chondrogenic regions. In order to study the paracrine effects, mbMSC and bmMSC conditioned mediums were capable of stimulating HUVEC’s tube-like formation and migration. Both cells expressed VEGF-A and FGF2. Meanwhile, PDGF-B was expressed exclusively in mbMSC. Our results indicated that mbMSC and bmMSC presented a promising angiogenic potential. However, mbMSC seems to have additional advantages since it can be obtained by non-invasive procedure and expresses PDGF-B, an important molecule for vascular formation and remodeling

    Data sources for drug utilization research in Latin American countries - a cross-national study : DASDUR-LATAM study

    PURPOSE: Drug utilization research (DUR) contributes to inform policymaking and to strengthen health systems. The availability of data sources is the first step for conducting DUR. However, documents that systematize these data sources in Latin American (LatAm) countries are not known. We compiled the potential data sources for DUR in the LatAm region. METHODS: A network of DUR experts from nine LatAm countries was assembled and experts conducted: (i) a website search of the government, academic, and private health institutions; (ii) screening of eligible data sources, and (iii) liaising with national experts in pharmacoepidemiology (via an online survey). The data sources were characterized by accessibility, geographic granularity, setting, sector of the data, sources and type of the data. Descriptive analyses were performed. RESULTS: We identified 125 data sources for DUR in nine LatAm countries. Thirty-eight (30%) of them were publicly and conveniently available; 89 (71%) were accessible with limitations, and 18 (14%) were not accessible or lacked clear rules for data access. From the 125 data sources, 76 (61%) were from the public sector only; 46 (37%) were from pharmacy records; 43 (34%) came from ambulatory settings and; 85 (68%) gave access to individual patient-level data. CONCLUSIONS: Although multiple sources for DUR are available in LatAm countries, the accessibility is a major challenge. The procedures for accessing DUR data should be transparent, feasible, affordable, and protocol-driven. This inventory could permit a comparison of drug utilization between countries identifying potential medication-related problems that need further exploration
